Born on May 11, 1953, in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, George Frederick Jacobs, affectionately known as Freddie to family and Sand-fly to friends, has led a life shaped by faith, hard work, and a deep love for his family.
Freddie grew up in Lowmans Windward as the first child of his father, Adolphus Jacobs, and the fifth of seven children to his mother, Artelee Cottle. Raised by his grandmother, Maria Archibald, until the age of nine, he later lived with his father, a local pastor, until age fifteen. His educational foundation was laid at the Lowmans Windward Anglican Primary School, where teacher Mr. Bernard Williams instilled discipline, penmanship, and a love for learning. Freddie had a passion for mathematics, geography, history, and cricket, eventually attending the Georgetown Learning Center, where he secured his first job as a teacher’s aide for two years.
At the age of fifteen, on February 26, 1969, Freddie migrated to the British Virgin Islands, marking the beginning of a dedicated life of service. Mentored by the late Mr. Ira Maduro, he learned carpentry, which became his lifelong profession. After Mr. Maduro’s passing, Freddie worked with Mr. Terrance Malone from 1981 to 1995 as a foreman. Inspired to pursue contracting, he faced the challenge of acquiring his construction trade license, which he successfully achieved. This led to the establishment of his business, Frederick Jacobs Construction, where he built his first home for client Ms. Charlene Mercer.
Freddie’s notable achievements include contracts for the Romasco Building and the home of Linda Romney, both involving extensive hands-on work, as well as projects for clients such as Mrs. Lucille Malone, Mr. Lester Mercer, Mrs. Margaret Lewis, and Mr. & Mrs. Nicholas Scatliffe. He also built Mr. Vanburn Maduro’s building, which houses One Mart Supermarket in Baugher’s Bay, among many other houses and commercial buildings.
Outside of work, Freddie was an active member of the Blue Wings softball team from 1972 to 1988, winning numerous championships and playing in St. Thomas and St. John. In 1984, he met the love of his life at "The Butcher Shop," also known as Pig Mouth Bar. Their connection blossomed into marriage on February 28, 1987, creating a lifelong partnership of love and support.
On March 19, 1990, Freddie made a life-changing decision to give his life to Christ, with faith as the foundation of his home. Together with his wife, he built a Christian household grounded in spiritual values and a strong work ethic. Freddie is the proud father of six children—Annisha, Samantha, Ginny, Fredrena, Isaiah Jacobs, and Franklyn Davies—who embody the principles he holds dear. He is dedicated to being a role model of kindness, resilience, and consistency.
Above all, Freddie wishes to be remembered as a God-fearing, loving, and joyful man. His guiding message to future generations is simple yet profound: “Respect your elders and listen to good counsel.”
