Moviene L. Fahie, a proud native of Bellevue, Tortola, has long been a treasured figure in the British Virgin Islands. Born in 1959, she has committed her life to preserving the twin legacies of agriculture and cultural tradition in the territory. A devoted mother of three, Moviene is best known for her unshakeable work ethic, warm spirit, and tireless advocacy for local farmers.
With decades of experience in farming, she began her journey working with the Department of Agriculture and has become a familiar and beloved presence at the Crafts Alive Village in Road Town. Rain or shine, she sells fresh produce from her farm, supporting her family and sustaining her community with the fruits of her labour. Her deep knowledge of traditional farming practices and her dedication to the land have made her a trusted voice among her peers and a role model for younger generations.
Beyond her contributions to agriculture, Ms. Fahie has been a passionate cultural ambassador proudly participating in the annual August Monday Parade for over 30 years. Whether through dance, traditional dress, or music, she keeps the spirit of Virgin Islands culture alive. Her joyful performances at the Cyril B. Romney Tortola Pier Park, where she entertains both residents and international visitors, reflect her pride in her heritage and her desire to share it with the world.
Moviene is also a staunch advocate for farmers’ rights. She has bravely spoken out about the challenges in Paraquita Bay, particularly regarding inconsistent water supply and lack of infrastructure support for local agriculture. Her voice has brought public attention to these issues, pushing for long-overdue improvements and recognition of farmers’ needs.
Throughout her life, Ms. Fahie has remained rooted in her faith, family and community. She is known for her humility, resilience and unwavering commitment to service. Her efforts to uphold the Virgin Islands’ cultural identity and agricultural sustainability have not gone unnoticed.
